Youth Recreation - Intro
The Youth Recreation Program is a fun, introductory recreational program for youth ages 9-14, with little-to-no skiing experience, who wish to learn or improve their classic and skating techniques in a fun, social, group environment through a season of coached sessions. Especially suitable for late entry participants. The Youth Recreation program participants meet from January to March, Sunday ONLY. Starts at 10:00 AM and finishes between 11:30-12:00 (depending on the coach).
Youth FIT! - Fun Improvement Team!
A program for youth ages 10-15 years who want to continue developing their ski skills, improve their physical fitness and explore the Nordic trails in a supportive, social and fun recreational ski group. Previous cross country skiing experience is required. Ideally, FIT! participants can classic and/or skate ski ~5km (e.g., Paradise Meadows loop or Jutland) at a steady pace. The focus is on fun, fitness, continued ski skill development and spending time with other energetic youth on the trails. January to March, Sunday ONLY.
This group runs concurrently with the Sunday Rabbit Skill Development Program. Starts at 10:00 AM and finishes between 11:30-12:00 (depending on the coach).
SNAP - Strathcona Nordics Adventure Program
The Strathcona Nordics Adventure Program (SNAP) is a program for tweens and teens, 10-15. It brings together a number of disciplines in the family of Nordic skiing sports. SNAP continues to build on existing classic and skate skills, introduce and/or expand on snowshoeing skills, one of the fastest growing winter sports, and give kids an opportunity to try out the exhilarating sport of biathlon which involves both skiing and rifle marksmanship as well as ski-orienteering which includes map navigation along snow trails and tracks. Telemark and backcountry skiing may also be introduced as the program develops.
SNAP skiers meet for 10 weeks on Sunday, 10am to noon, and are coached by qualified club coaches.
This group runs concurrent with the Saturday Rabbit Skill Development Program. Participants are required to have completed the Rabbit Program or have a solid knowledge of classic and skate techniques.
All registered families are expected to volunteer throughout the season. Various volunteer roles are available with the Skill Development Program or for general SNSC activities.
Please note that SNSC does not provide drop in or individual lessons or instruction. Skiers looking for these options please visit Mount Washington’s Nordic lessons.
